"Stress by no means has undesirable consequences every time it occurs. Stress does become a problem however, when the neurological and endocrine systems are compelled to respond to environmental novelty constantly and over a long period of time. When this happens, the neurological system, and especially the endocrine system, can become debilitated through overstimulation. Repeated activation of the endocrine system over an extended duration distrubs the normal patter of hormone secretion, which, in turn, has several undesirable physiological consequences such as a sharp reduction in the production of white blood cells (the central components of the body's immune system).....Further more the body becomes more and more exhausted as energy is used to constantly to keep the two systems operating, to keep the brain and sensory organs in a high state of alertness and to keep the body ready for fight, flight or adaptation.
